Andros Sport Trail Running Nutrition Review | Tested for Training & Racing
Finding the right trail running nutrition can make a huge difference during training and race day — especially when preparing for longer distances where fueling, digestion, and practicality matter just as much as performance.
Over the last few weeks, one member of the TrailRunAdvisor team — a young trail runner balancing studies alongside races ranging from 15 km to 45 km — had the opportunity to test the Andros Sport nutrition range in real training conditions.
From energy gels and fruit purées to gummies, energy bars, and electrolytes, here is our honest review of how Andros Sport performs for trail runners.
Products were provided by Andros Sport for testing purposes. This review reflects an independent experience from our team.
First Impressions: Designed for Outdoor Sports
What stood out immediately about the Andros Sport range was how practical the formats are for trail running and outdoor sports.
A particular highlight was the resealable pouch format used for the gels, fruit purées, and savoury mixes.
Why?
Because unlike traditional gels that often become sticky and messy during races, these can be consumed gradually without getting product everywhere — a small detail that makes a real difference on long runs.
One standout flavour was the blackcurrant & beetroot gel, which quickly became a personal favourite thanks to its enjoyable taste and originality.
Energy Gels, Gummies & Fruit Snacks: Surprisingly Easy to Eat
The fruit snacks and gummies were another pleasant surprise.
Many runners find this type of nutrition too sugary or difficult to tolerate after several hours of effort. However, the texture and taste remained enjoyable, even during longer sessions.
For trail runners who struggle with overly sweet race nutrition, this could be an interesting alternative.
The same positive impression applied to the Activ’Bar energy bars:
- soft texture
- easy to chew during effort
- and, importantly, easy to digest while running
A Good Balance Between Sweet and Savoury
One of the strongest points of the Andros Sport range for trail running is the ability to easily alternate between:
- solid and liquid nutrition
- sweet and savoury options
During long runs, this variety helps avoid flavour fatigue — something many trail runners experience during races.
Having different textures and tastes available made fueling feel easier and more natural over time.
Travel-Friendly Nutrition for Destination Races
For runners who travel regularly to races, practicality matters.
An interesting advantage of the Andros Sport range is that most formats can easily be packed in cabin luggage, making them convenient for destination trail races.
Only the larger pouches and isotonic drink bottles proved less travel-friendly during a recent race trip to Romania. However, the electrolyte sticks offered a compact and effective alternative.
For frequent-travelling trail runners, this is a genuine plus.
Race-Tested Soon: A 44 km Trail Ahead
Currently preparing for a 44 km trail race with 2,300 m of elevation gain, our tester plans to rely on an almost 100% Andros Sport nutrition strategy during the event.
That will be the real test.
