I’m glad that this was my initiation race. I think it helped ease me into all aspects of trail running (the pros and cons) the seamless communication from registration to race day, the supportive crew and their well-organized system of work put together a great experience. First timers who have no clue about most things in a trail race will find the best support in this event without fear for safety nor anything else. Rarely would you come across sports events that puts athletes’ interest as primary. PMTF, CTC, HUT, and the H1 events has it all for every runner out there. Whether you’re looking for a challenge or just out for great sceneries at the country side, you shouldn’t miss out on this one.

The course is not to be underestimated. The trails and paths are not overly technical but the gradient of the ascents and descents will humble most runners. The first half of the course runs through raw and beautiful pine forests. The 2nd half is mostly open trails and demands proper heat training. The marshalls and volunteers at the aid station are all aware on how to cater to the needs of the runners, food and hydration is plenty.

One of the hardest yet most beautiful race in the phil. Witnessing the beautiful mountain ranges in nueva vizcaya. Hardcore hundred miles race review
The Hardcore Hundred Miles is one of the toughest yet most beautiful races in the Philippines. Every step through the breathtaking mountain ranges of Nueva Vizcaya was both a challenge and a reward. The endless climbs, rugged trails, and unpredictable conditions tested every ounce of strength and determination, but the stunning views made every struggle worth it.

I have been joining PMT since 2023 as part of my first and much awaited H1 race preparation. So glad I finished it and brought the buckle and the anito home.
Race Atmosphere – The best. This is the yearly gathering of trail runners/lovers where you can feel alive and at home.
Race Venue – I had no issue getting my tracker, had my mandatory gear check, securing my drop bag, etc. It was well organized.
Race Course – Full of markings, I didnt’ get lost a lot. The different terrains it offered and recorded elevation were unforgiving but rewarding.
Aid Stations – Familiar friends giving you aid and moral support. The foods and drinks were the best. For improvement, I hope the local community can do something about the flies.
Post-Race – I had no issue with the timing, had my refreshments, friends were waiting at the venue.
Overall Experience – One of the best races here in the Philippines! This could be your another yearly race “Panata”.

Races are usually designed by the race director so signing up means agreement to their terms, it is like Barkley Marathons to make a decision, so for Hut 60Km, although a well designed race, cut-off and elevation gains should be studied very well, to be a statistic, 14/44 runners is a low passing rate same as with 100 miles that is 40/84, which means that cut offs are very stringent, just study and compare it to utmb-occ so it balances well with the overall experience of the runner, but I agree that every year is a different edition, I like challenges so results are accepted, Kind regards.

What a great way to discover a part of Philippines. I have traveled the world and joining this race was really unknown. I actually find a fantastic community that welcomed me, but also one of the best organisation I have seen. The trail is marked so well, it is challenging and that’s what we look for when we do on trails for such a long distance. The aid station were packed of food and liquids, the tracking system was great to keep us (runners) safe, but also to provide information for our friends and family. I will definitely come back to this one.

The Philippine Mountain Trail Festival (PMTF) is three mountain trail events run over one weekend in Kayapa, Nueva Vizcaya, on the eastern flank of the Cordillera Central. Six categories, from 13.55 km to 164.85 km, all starting and finishing at Kayapa Central School. The 2027 edition runs 30th April – 2nd May.
Hardcore Ultra Trail (HUT) carries the long distances. Hardcore 100 Miles (H1) is 164.85 km with over 9,500 m of ascent, first run in 2013 as the Philippines’ first hundred-mile trail race. It is the second-oldest 100-miler in Asia, among the fifteen oldest in the world, and a qualifier for both the Hardrock 100 and the Western States Endurance Run. Hardcore 50 Miles (76.66 km) and Hardcore 60 K (63.65 km) share H1’s trails and start line.
Cascade Trail Challenge (CTC) is 37.78 km, named for the waterfalls that line its route, climbing and descending around 2,640 m to a high point of 1,921 m.
Philippine Mountain Trail (PMT) is the way in. The 24.49 km climbs around 1,685 m to 1,919 m above sea level, where runners may catch the ethereal sea of clouds, cross hanging bridges, and pass waterfalls and rice paddies. The 13.55 km is a walkable distance that suits hikers as well as runners stepping up from road or shorter trails. Both carry generous 8-hour cut-offs.
Every category is ITRA rated and carries UTMB Index points. PMTF is an Asia Trail Master series event
