One of the biggest challenges I’ve ever taken part in at 19 years old as an ultramarathon runner. I loved participating and I will definitely be back to run other distances. Impeccable organization, with a fantastic human warmth and a high level of athletes. The city is wonderful and welcoming. In short, a true World Trail Running Championship party.

A Grueling Test of Spirit and Endurance Through the Heart of the Brazilian Highlands
Distance:200 Miles (Approx. 322 Km)
Location:Nova Trento & Surrounding Region, Brazil
The 200-Mile Ultra is not merely a race; it is a raw, immersive journey that pushes the boundaries of endurance. This event carves a relentless, looping course through a condensed but topographically savage region, offering a unique and crazy experience that is as much about spiritual fortitude as it is about physical prowess.
Course and Challenge:
The course is a masterclass in relentless, varied punishment. Beginning in the charming town of Nova Trento, participants are quickly swallowed by the rolling hills that define the early stages. This “rolling all the way” terrain ensures no respite, constantly engaging different muscle groups and demanding strategic energy management.
The undisputed centerpiece of the race is the ascent to the church of Santa Paulina. This segment is not for the faint of heart, featuring a steep, bushwhacking climb through dense jungle that feels more like an expedition than a race. However, the race organization shines here—despite the wild and technical nature of the climb, the markings are consistently good, preventing frustrating navigational errors and allowing runners to focus purely on the formidable challenge underfoot.
The majority of the course traverses “broken dirt roads,” a constant test of stability and concentration that wears on the body and mind over 200 miles. The finale is a final, cruel, and brilliant test: a climb above Nova Trento, offering a panoramic view of the finish you cannot yet touch, before a technical descent back into town. The final run through the streets to a rousing welcome at the finish provides an emotional and unforgettable conclusion.
Organization and Support:
For an event of this scale and remoteness, logistics are paramount. The aid stations, positioned every 2 to 3 hours, are reported to be well-stocked, providing critical lifelines for runners battling exhaustion and the elements. The excellent course marking in technically demanding and remote sections like the jungle climb cannot be overstated; it is a primary safety feature executed flawlessly.
A minor point of consideration for potential participants is the “snaking” nature of the course over a “small region.” While this creates a fascinating and logistically manageable route, some may find the repeated vistas mentally challenging compared to a more linear point-to-point journey.
Atmosphere and Venue:
The atmosphere is electric and deeply connected to the local community. The journey through the jungle to a historic religious site like the Santa Paulina church adds a layer of profound, almost pilgrimage-like significance to the physical struggle. This spiritual undertone is beautifully balanced by the raw, energetic celebration at the finish line in Nova Trento. The community’s embrace of the runners, culminating in the final run through the streets, creates a powerful sense of achievement and shared joy.
Safety:
The combination of predictable aid station support and exceptional course marking in high-risk areas makes this a fundamentally safe event for a prepared ultra-runner. The challenges are inherent to the terrain, not from a lack of organizational oversight.
The Nova Trento 200-Mile Ultra is a premier event for athletes seeking an authentic, grueling, and spiritually resonant adventure. It successfully strips away the comforts of city running and plunges participants into a raw battle with nature, history , and their own limits. It is a crazy, beautiful, and deeply rewarding experience.
The Bottom Line:
This race is a masterpiece of challenging course design and soul-stirring atmosphere. It is highly recommended for seasoned ultra-runners who are well-prepared for technical trails, significant elevation gain, and the unique mental challenge of a convoluted, relentless route. The Nova Trento Ultra is more than a finish line; it’s a transformative journey that you earn every step of the way.

I really liked the organization — everything was very well signposted, and the staff was well prepared to provide us with assistance and information.
The landscapes were simply spectacular! I’m not a big fan of very flat races; however, I really enjoyed the experience. It’s an ultra with elements that make it very challenging!
