The Night Shift Ultra is a backyard ultra like no other, where the atmosphere is as much a part of the race as the running itself. The event truly comes to life after sunset, thanks to the incredible volunteers, or “Martians,” who kept the energy buzzing in the base camp. Their endless encouragement and cheerful banter were a lifeline for tired runners. The constant thump of the DJ’s music and the flickering flames of the campfire created a surreal, almost festival-like vibe that somehow made the grueling night loops feel less daunting. This race is a testament to community spirit, turning a solitary challenge into a shared, unforgettable adventure.

Having recently completed the race I have nothing but praise for the event. Firstly, the setting, a unique campsite style area in amongst the trees with all the facilities needed (water station, toilets, huge teepee/wooden covered area, bonfire, seating) was great.
The crew were supportive and encouraged throughout with high energy matching the DJ blasting out tunes for the whole 12 hours!!
The organisers were very informative and good communication up to and throughout the race making it an enjoyable stress free (running 50 miles aside haha) day/night.
The run itself was a not too technical trail mapped and marked out clearly with no issues even through the dark hours. With the race finish in the final lap a twist on the standard BYU format
Finally the medal is worth it alone! Haha
Overall recommend it for anyone who wants to test themselves in a unique style race.

Unreal event. Most fun related running event I’ve done. Class location, DJ on all night, mint vibes and energy all night from the volunteers. Couldn’t have asked for anything more. Buzzing to have been part of the first ever Nightshift ultra.

Amazing set up. The martians 👽 were very good at keeping the energy high all night long and the DJ playing in the base camp gave us a huge lift and a buzz every time we entered the camp. Loved it would definitely do it again 👽👽👽 👽

NIGHTSHIFT ULTRA is a 50 miler, backyard style, completing a 4.2 mile loop every hour on the hour.
The shift begins at 6pm and doesn’t stop till the sun comes up. 5am. Lap 12, the final lap begins.
The winner of the final lap is crowned the Champ. £100 Up & Running Gift Voucher for fastest Male & Female
For example, if you’re hitting 12 minute miles, you should have between 12-10 minutes chill time before you go again. Simple!
During your chill time you hang out in the ‘Base Camp’ area which has a real festival style feel to it, expect a DJ spinning tunes, a campfire with marshmallows and hot chocolates for supporters, a table full of snacks and sweets for people to nibble on & a lovely team of volunteers on hand to keep the vibes high.
