Merrell Agility Peak 6 Long-Term Review: Tested on a Skyrace and a 100km Ultra
Earlier this year, we published our first impressions of the Merrell Agility Peak 6, highlighting its comfort, grip and versatility after our initial testing.
Since then, we’ve had the opportunity to put the shoes through two very different challenges:
- Comapedrosa Mountain Festival Skyrace (Andorra) – a highly technical mountain race featuring rocky terrain, steep climbs and even sections of snow.
- Alsace by UTMB 100K (France) – a long-distance ultra where comfort, durability and foot protection become just as important as grip.
After many more kilometres on the trails, one question remained:
Did the Merrell Agility Peak 6 live up to our first impressions?
The answer is a clear yes.
Tested Across Two Completely Different Races
One of the biggest strengths of the Agility Peak 6 is its versatility.
At Comapedrosa, the shoe inspired confidence on rocky mountain terrain, maintaining excellent traction even when crossing snow patches. The Vibram® Megagrip outsole continued to perform exceptionally well on both dry rock and loose mountain trails.
A few weeks later came a completely different challenge: the 100km Alsace by UTMB.
While the course was less technical, the distance itself became the real test.
After spending many hours on the trails, comfort often matters more than speed.
What We Loved After More Trail Miles
Outstanding comfort over ultra distances
This was perhaps the biggest surprise.
After 100 kilometres, we experienced:
- No blisters.
- No hotspots.
- No toe issues.
- No damaged toenails.
For an ultra-distance trail shoe, that’s one of the strongest compliments we can give.
The cushioning remained comfortable throughout the race without ever feeling unstable.
Excellent grip in the mountains
Whether running over rocky ridges in Andorra or mixed forest trails in Alsace, the grip remained one of the shoe’s standout features.
The Vibram® Megagrip outsole continued to provide excellent confidence on technical terrain, helping us feel secure on climbs and descents alike.
Built to Last
After two demanding mountain races and many additional training kilometres, the shoes have shown very little wear.
The outsole remains in excellent condition, the upper has held up well and the overall construction continues to inspire confidence.
Durability appears to be another strong point of the Agility Peak 6.
Our Verdict After Long-Term Testing
Many trail shoes make a good first impression.
Far fewer continue to impress after technical mountain races and a 100km ultra.
For us, the Merrell Agility Peak 6 has successfully passed both tests.
It’s a shoe that combines comfort, dependable grip and durability, making it suitable for everything from technical mountain races to long-distance ultras.
Final Rating
After extensive testing in very different conditions, our opinion hasn’t changed.
If anything, our confidence in the Agility Peak 6 has grown.
